Women Unite in Power of Silence at Cannes
A hush fell over Cannes this year when 82 women in the film industry stopped and silently stood on the red carpet.
The women used the power of silence to make a statement on the lack of female directors at the 2018 festival, which was reported in The Guardian and other media outlets.
After their silence, Cate Blanchett read a statement that in part said:
“As women, we all face our own unique challenges, but we stand together on these stairs today as a symbol of our determination and commitment to progress.
“We stand together on these steps today as a symbol of our determination and progress. The stairs of our industry must be accessible to all. Let’s climb,” it concluded.
